Somewhat of a shaggy dog story

It's interesting for a while, to see the machinations of the industry and so on, but just grinds into irrelevance about half an hour in.

We get that this guy's a sad sack and has lots of pressure, but was there any real reason to tell this story? Just having such an awesome cast and ultimately a non event movie smacks of wastage to me.

If it had a stronger narrative thread, or more of a drama plot, it could have been so much more. Also, with De Niro in full autopilot, it's also kind of sad to see him ambling around a movie like this, even if it was based on his friend Art Linson's book.

It's sort of just... weak. When it's over, you walk out of the cinema and think nothing more of it whatsoever.

Very true, but unlike most shaggy dogs, this one was not lovable in the least.

Boring, self-involved people making boring, self-indulgent films do not make for good movies. People talking on cell phones and texting make for very bad movies. This was just a very average movie. The point here seems to be Hollywood is full of sleazoids. This is news?

De Niro was decent, but hardly memorable. In fact, I've almost forgotten this film already three hours after I saw it. What just ... oh, nevermind.
