Levinson can't even direct a convincing fake movie anymore!

Just finished watching it, and it's just the most appaling piece of crap I've seen in a long time! Not a single character makes sense in this movie and it seems to be shot by a mental patient. In fact, the whole movie looks like they're just shooting a rehearsel, acting at half speed and with the dp just walking around with a camera, trying to figure out what to do. The cinematography is in fact so bad I'm literally never seeing what I wanna see in a scene. Also, the Sean-Penn-movie-within-the-movie is so unconvincing, it's laughable. It's so bad, it doesn't even work withing the context of a satire, which this isn't, because it's neither funny nor sharp.

I really don't know what Levinson's problem is, he used to be great. This is just a complete waste of time for everybody involved.

You certainly hit it right on the head. Though I don't think it was all Levinson's fault. What disappointed me was that Linson's book by the same title intrigued me enough to rent the film. Boy, was that misleading. Linson even claimed having so much experience helping writers craft scripts for his successful films, he knew how to write an appealing script. Wrong again.

Yeah, I've read some chapters from Linsons book, and I though it was very entertaining and highly interesting stuff. It was still Levinson who apparently thought he could make a movie out of Linsons script though, but let's just say we blame the two of them. And DeNiro. And the producers probably. And... oh forget it...

reply

Agreed. This movie was horrible.
