Dull exept for Wincott as the director, is he based on Tony Kaye? Haven't read the book.

If you have seen Kaye being interviewed and heard about his American History X hoo-haa it seems possible.

In an interview, MW stated that he based the character on several people and added a bit of his own flavor to the mix as well. His performance was brilliant!

I didn't even know it was him until I looked at the cast list on here... Terrific performance!!

Wincott was excellent here, as usual. An underrated, but venerable actor. Spot on accent and you have to love his "I smoke 5 packs of Lucky Strikes a day" voice.

More like Paul Kaye

and a bit of keith richards definitely in there

My question is what accent was he doing? I'm english and it seemed almost like a perfect keith richards impression, but after watching it someone told me he was doing south african! So can anyone clarify?

He was DEFINITELY doing a British accent. In my opinion - perhaps SARF LUNDUN (South London). Most of my Mum's relatives come from there and he sounded like them. I came on IMDB just to find out who he was. Such a good performance.

I was astounded to find out he was NOT British (one parent I think) but was born is Canada and lives in New York! He did remind me of Keith Richard (who he admires - like Johnny Depp does).

Shame it was another cliched version of British is Bad (like Rock stars are always portrayed) but hey - Brits are the new Russians for US audiences (or is it just Hollywood?).

Yeah--definitely a Keith Richards influence in the character.

Apparently, Wincott is a big Keith Richards fan, so that makes sense :)
