Is it because he was happy deniro attacked turturro at the gravesude? What changed his mind?

did he not only shave half his beard???? well thats what i saw anyway

Well, yeah, he shaved half, but the implication was that he was going to shave the other half. Half left on for that big unveiling, so he could mess with people, making them think he wasn't caving in.
