Differences from the book?

I really liked this film and was thinking about reading the book but apparently the book is really different from the film and not as funny. I was wondering if anyone who has read the book could tell me how different it is from the film .

The book is a fully illustrated dark story tale that loosely follows the main plot points of the book. I also was curious about the book after I saw the movie and saw the book in the graphic novel section of a local public library. It is certainly a fantasy tale but it's not a fairytale with a happily ever after ending in the movie.

Pretty interesting read; good artwork.

There's actually quite a number of significant differences.

I think the biggest and most obvious one is Captain Shakespeare. In the book, the ship's captain is a background character who isn't even mentioned by name. The movie elevates him to a prominent role.

The movie's climax with the witch is also purely manufactured for the movie.
