Did Lamia really just want a meal?

When she rides up to the gypsy cart and eats the truth serum.

Was there some more important reason to approach the gypsy or did she just have a craving for some rodent burgers?

reply

No, she genuinely seemed hungry. She may be a witch but everyone has to eat!

She could easily have conjured up a meal but the counterargument would be that she wanted to conserve her magic.

She knew exactly who the other witch was from the very moment she laid her eyes on Ditchwater Sal.

It's spelled Raymond Luxury Yacht, but it's pronounced 'Throat-Warbler Mangrove'

In the book it's suggested that to be welcomed as a guest by a fellow witch, the guest needs to eat the host's food (which was conveniently laced with Limbus grass). Could be that Lamia was just abiding by the rules, even though she was the most powerful witch in the world and clearly superior to Sal.

Its also an allusion to old tales of the Faerie. To go 'under the Hill' and guest with them and not eat or drink would be rude, but to consume part of the underhill would result in all sorts of strange things happening. Lost time, being 'out of joint', or being stuck forever were a few possible results.
