Bought this movie not knowing what it was. Didnt expect much to begin with, fairytales not my cup of tea, i kinda past the ignorant age. Well, it did make me smile once or twice so it aint all that bad and compared to some fantasymofies this one actually provided once or twice.
But anyway, reason why I bought this DVD and reason of this thread is because of De Niro.
Here we are a dude that played one bad ass mofo after an other and shows up in a makebelief *beep* story like this one ... as a gay.
Kinda lost my respect totally there.
Ah well, another DVD in my collection that will just sit there and collect dust i guess.

Thirteen films since he made Stardust in 2007.

Thirteen films in FOUR years!!!

(and another in the pipeline).

It would appear that Mr DeNiro's career isn't quite over yet, even despite his outstanding portrayal of a gay pirate not being appreciated by you.

Of course I wouldn't suggest that you should lie. You obviously didn't like his performance in this film (or maybe the role he was playing?), and that is fair enough, you are as entitled to your own opinion as everybody else. But to suggest that playing a gay pirate has ended his career when it is quite clearly still flourishing is incorrect.

Technically, Robert de Niro does not play a "gay" pirate in this movie, he plays a "transvestite" pirate - a cross-dresser. His particular kink is dressing up in women's clothes. That doesn't necessarily say anything about his preferred gender in bed partners.

No slight on Casino, Godfather 2 or Goodfellas but Deniro playing the same character over and over is as boring as someone being insecure about him portraying a gay man.

Honestly though, it was the combination of the grammar, the complete lack of wit and the juvenile preoccupation with/fear of homosexuality that made me draw the conclusion that you're not the brightest guy on the boards.

If english is your second language, it's understandable why you're communicating your point so poorly but it doesn't change the childishness of your complaint.

I said "a film" not "all films". In your initial post you mentioned that Stardust would be collecting dust from now on because Deniro played a gay character in it.

And I have plenty on you. You feel because someone is attracted to the same sex that they're on par with child molesters. That's a pretty disgusting line of thinking and whoever hammered that into your brain should be ashamed.

1) Do you really believe it's a career ending move for a heterosexual man to portray a homosexual?

2) How did you come to the conclusion that gay people are on par with child molesters? Is it the consensus of your country? Something your family or friends taught you?

DeNiro's career is far from over. He's a member of a very select group of actors who have conquered so many amazing roles, he can afford to do frivolous ones once in a while at no cost to his reputation. Even the Rocky & Bullwinkle movie didn't slow him down

I don't think the OP was looking for a fight. He really is stupid enough to believe Deniro's career is winding down, that Deniro playing a sociopath is where his resume should begin and end, and that people would actually agree with this.

He was exposed as an insecure bigot that probably has a bedtime at eight or nine o'clock.

I applaud you lostboy for being so persistent. I think I would have given up after the 2nd or 3rd response. I'm still scratching my head how the OP could say in one sentence that a gay man is equivalent to a pedophile and then in the next say that he's not homophobic. I can only assume he must have looked up in a dictionary the literal meaning of the word (FEAR of gays) and reacted to the part about not being AFRAID of them. Which may be a result of not being a native english speaker (suspect) or just extremely ignorant. Although the latter has been proven without a doubt.

In any event, De Niro's role was actually the highlight of the film for me. My friends kept telling me to wait for it. Both incredibly charming and funny :)

Having said that, he did strike me as being way over the top. Couldn't they have just made him cultured and not gone off the deep end with his characters?

Actors with that huge career dont get asigned, or roles written especially for them, they pick it. If he wanted to play it that way, that tells you one thing of his state of mind.
