question (well i don´t know...)(SPOILERS)

did they write and produce the whole season before it aired?
because the last episode seemed like they knew there would be no 2nd season, all the couples are happy together, etc.
sure some things won´t be resolved like the macau deal or the FCC lawsuit, that would have been issues for another year.
So would do you think?
was the season finale written when they already expected the show to be cancelled? because it surely is no cliffhanger.

Yah, I just finished the series this afternoon and I would guess with the way that NBC kept stringing them along. Ordering the second half of the whole season in November, the critical panning in December and the final episode not airing until the middle of the following summer.

My guess is that they knew full well shooting the final episode that it wasn't coming back.

Great show though.

They left Series 1 with low ratings probably hoping that they woud be staying, but as far as they knew they'd be returning for Series 2.
The fact that everything seems happy at the end was only a coincidence, because the story was going to continue.

They starting writing Series 2 and apparently filmed some of it. But it got put on a long hiatus and was then cancelled.

Tartlet?!, Tartlet?!, Tartlet?!

Is this show still available on DVD?? I'm thinking of looking at Best Buy, I searched it on their website and it was on sale for $14.99. The only problem is that its listed as backordered.

Is in the UK don't know about the US - try ebay if all else fails.

As for the original post - yes they did know, the last 5 or 6 episodes were written and shot after it was announced, if I recall correctly.

Hard to believe it's coming up on two years without Studio 60. Anyway, the last four episodes were structured to set up the end of the series, as the writing was on the wall long before. The official announcement came the day after Studio 60 returned to the air in May 207 after an absence of several months..

Some US viewers were baffled when the show returned for the last five episodes, as the episode "The Disaster Show" was filmed without any of the three lead characters. I'm pretty sure the episode was conceived to be freestanding, so it could be easily re-run, and still fit in to the general time line of the show (had the show been renewed for future seasons.)

Matt, Danny and Jordan were referred to, but never seen, as the decision had been made to eliminate each of the leads from one episode each for economic reasons. Sorkin opted to delete them from the same episode. Due to they way the last four shows were set up, with so many ongong themes, it would have been awkward to insert "The Disaster Show" between any of them.

If the board will permit shamless self-promotion, here's the commentary I did upon the show's exit. (Spoiler Warning)

Television's latest next sure thing bites the dust. Not that you'd notice
