I see why it cancelled...

This show was good for like the first 12 episodes then it turned into an overly-dramatic, overly-preachy, clichéd characters/plot lines, romantic drama. What the hell is up with the flash-back episodes??? Please, I can see why they cancelled this over 30 Rock.

The flashback episodes were set up from the very beginning. You think Sorkin had Tom's brother in Afghanistan just for the heck of it? 9/11 was a big deal for the entertainment business, especially when it came to censorship, and I'm sure Sorkin always planned to address that.

I agree with 7star.

Yeah but the show concentrates too much on relationships now, between Matt and Harriet and Danny and Jordan it's just too damn much relationship stuff going on.

I actually really enjoyed the relationship between Matt and Harriet. I wasn't crazy about Danny/Jordan, mostly because I thought it wasn't built up too well, but it didn't bother me nor did I find it distracting. While romance was important, I never felt Sorkin put too much of an emphasis on it, nor does anybody else I know who watched it (and that's a lot of people). But it is a matter of opinion.

Noooooo, actually it got low ratings because it was awful; a show about angst ridden comedy writers? come on, it was painful to watch.

You could say the same about 30 rock, which I love. I really think the shows problem was its terrible marketing by NBC. Everyone compares it to 30 rock, but the two show could not be any more different. Mainly one being a comedy, while the other being a drama, with a lot of politics and views thrown in. While NBC tried to empathize the comedy. As a comedy the show failed despite having funny moments, as a drama it was great.

Those later episodes were not intended to be that way. The show was found out to be cancelled in and around those midseason episodes and so Sorkin had to wrap everything that he had intended on carrying out over numerous seasons into ONE. So it didn't get cancelled because it became convoluted, it was convoluted because it was getting cancelled.

I still miss it. :-(

I'm like the kiss of death for TV.

I'm cursed. If I love it - it gets canned.

That's the only logical explanation I can think of for why there's so much total crap on TV and so many great shows only get one season.

Harriet was the reason the show did so poor in the ratings (even though it was the highest rated show being recorded and watched at a later date)

She's soooo needy and egotistical. Watching it i can't see how everyone is supposed to think she's the best actor on the show, i don't think the actress herself if good at being Harriet let alone Harriet being any good. They should have switched it and had Tom being the lead with the Matt character being a woman (so change the name too) - although i like Perry. Have Jeannie as the other one from the 'big 3' so you've now got Tom, Simon and Jeannie and put Harriet back with Dylan, Samantha and Alex (although i also thought Dylan was good enough to be 1 of the big ones). DL needed a bigger part too.
