Please someone clear something up for me (SPOILERS)

Two things bothered me with this movie---

First--we find out that Jane never hit a girl in the middle of the road. That was the girl's ghost trying to warn her about Ben. And since Ben and Jane find the decomposing body of the ghost later in the movie, we know she has been dead for a long time.

We also know that the "ghost" has appeared in photos before they even left for Tokoyo--it appeared in some of their wedding photos and it appeared in the photos Ben took when they were having sex just after the wedding (all while still in the United States).

From Ben and Jane's reaction to the affected photos, we can assume this is something new to them--it hasn't happened before.

Also, we can assume that the pain in Ben's neck is something new as well. Jane comments on it being a result of the accident, and Ben even goes to the doctor's for it while in Tokoyo.

Yet we are also led to believe that the ghost has been with Ben for a while, since her death. The reason I believe we are to think this is that the ghost had been with Ben since before getting to Tokoyo. So it's not as if it "latched onto him" as soon as he got to Japan. It was with him before that.

So, assuming all of the above, why did the pain in the neck and the affected photos begin only recently if the ghost has been with Ben for so long?

The second thing that bothered me--and maybe this was resolved, but I just missed it--is how did the girl end up dying. In another post on here, someone said it was suicide because of the bottles of poison found in the room. Yet two things made me think that Ben had killed her: (1) his reaction of disbelief when Bruno said he saw the girl not too long ago, and (2) the scene where he sees the ghost in his film room and then has blood on his hands and face.

From those two scenes, I thought we were going to find our that Ben killed her. Yet, at least that I remember, it's never mentioned.

All in all, it was an ok film. It did have a couple of parts that made me jump. I didn't see the part coming where the ghost was "on his back" the whole time. That was cool. But I wouldn't say I need to see the movie again.

I would appreciate any comments anyone might have on either of my two points.

thanks.

The movie itself was left pretty open ended on your first point, but I do have one theory that may clear things up.

I don't necessarily think that the ghost had been with Ben for a really long period of time. I believe that the ghost only truly began to haunt Ben after he married Jane. The reason for this is because we're told that Megumi was a very attached person. I think that she didn't necessarily mind Ben being single(at least didn't care enough to haunt him), but after he got married is when she started her haunting. This could be because she can't stand Ben loving anyone else, and would want to warn the lover of his past. This could possibly answer why the markings started showing up immediately after his marriage to Jane.

As for the second point, it's really hard to dodge the idea of her killing herself. While Ben may look suspicious on film, I don't find that enough to warrant an accusation of him straight up killing her. The chemical bottles, her in the chair next to them, and nobody hearing of her are enough to make me think she offed herself.

I just watched this movie last night. I got the impression that Megumi showed up just before or at the wedding. I just assumed she latched onto him at the scene of the car crash.

As for her death, that was something I questioned also. We know Bruce and Adam raped her, but did they kill her and make it look like a suicide? I don't believe so, because of the comment Bruce made to Ben about seeing her on the street. What I figured, is she was already unstable emotionally, lost her father, lost Ben and then she was gang raped. She killed herself.

I just have to say, I really loved the ending!!!! Bruce and Adam got off easy by death, what Ben has to live with is much, much worse.

Okay, while rape is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE thing, I do not think those guys deserved to DIE for what they did! They didn't killer her... SHE killed HERSELF. Yes they should be held responsible and def go to jail. But death? Man I guess she was super pissed.

Megumi didn't kill anyone. This is totally eye for an eye. She just wanted them to feel exactly what she did: fear. Only, like her, they couldn't handle the shame and being afraid, so they killed themselves.

I can't imagine a woman going through such a horrible thing and NOT wanting those guys dead! I also thought that it was kind of stupid that he was going to blackmail her into leaving him alone. I guess if that did not work he would kill her, right? Makes no sense to me.

I can't believe there are people out there who keep saying that rapists don't dererve to die. Any rapist derves to die, and they deserve to die by suffering rape is far worse that murder. i'm not sure if they killed her or she killed herself but those 2 guys got off easy for being murdered, rape is something a women has to life with her whole life.

Honestly, I'd rather be killed than raped.

I agree I think she first showed up around the wedding, don't we see a photo of her next to them at the wedding

I also think she committed suicide
