cuz aside from that, i dont see how this movie could be considered this bad, it was entertaining enough to me, and even a bit scary if you really got into the plot...

I think you're right, and it is a bit unfair. If the original is a 9 and this is a 7 people shouldn't then downgrade it to a 3 or 4 just because it's not as good as the original. Judge it on it's own merits. It's a highly predictable, but well acted and interesting ghost story with a few good creep out moments.
