Ben's suitcase (spoilers)

Is the suitcase that Jane finds in the storage room, a suitcase that Ben just left unpacked from his last return from Japan 2 years ago? This seems strange to me.

My biggest problem with this movie is how spooky scenes were often placed back-to-back. Towards the end when Jane and Ben were staying at the hotel awaiting Megumi's funeral, Megumi 'attacks' Ben on the bed; immediately following is a nearly-identical scene of him waking up again and Megumi appearing. What, did he just drift peacefully off to sleep between haunts?

Similar juxtapositions happened whenever Megumi appeared in the couple's Tokyo lost. With no story happening between scare scenes, there was no atmosphere to make the movie truly scary. If felt like the writers had a laundry list of cool scenes and just threw them together all in a row.

Yes, I thought exactly the same thing myself. It's only a short film and I quite liked, despite its limitations, yet the scary scenes appear to be laden on to excess.

The guy wakes up from one terrifying nightmare with his wife and we're expected to believe he's just gone straight back to sleep and had another one. I would have been up all night after the first, with every light in the place switched on.🐭

Maybe it was a false awakening?

Yes. He doesn't really wake up at that point. He wakes up in the nightmare.

I was just thinking the same thing with the suitcase.

They kept their apartment in NYC, even while in Japan, right? If so, then I suppose it could make sense that he kept that old suitcase in the storage room. Cause otherwise it makes no sense. 
