Whose daughter was jess?

I find it very confusing.

I know hanged borden is the one who loved olivia.

And alive one is one who loved sarah.

But, I don't understand why hanged borden wad so obsessed with jess.

It seemed to me he considered himself as jess' father.

His last word to jess was "I love you jess. I love you jess"

And all he wanted was jess' well being.

He sold his trick to caldlow because he wanted jess to have a good life.

Well. Of course uncle can love his nephew but it seemed more like a fatherly love to me.

Does it mean he made love with sarah?

Yes. Which is why we'll never know exactly who the father is. That's why they both loved Jess. She could've been been the daughter of either one. So as far as they were concerned, she was both their daughter.

But. Now I come to think of it, it is unlikely that hanged one was jess' father.
Remember that scene in which sarah told him(hanged one) that she was going to have a baby.
His first word was "we are going to have a baby! That is so great. we should tell fallon"
To me, it seemed he wanted real biological father(alive one) to hear the news asap.
And it definitely was the hanged fallon in that scene. Remember, in that scene, he told sarah that he love her and sarah said he didn't mean it at that moment, implying it was hanged borden who didn't love sarah.

Indeed, it was Freddie (the Borden who loved Olivia) who said "We should have told Fallon!" in that scene.

However, it could also mean that Freddie had rather wanted Sarah to share/celebrate that "good news" with the one she loves and who loves her. I think it doesn't necessarily mean that Freddie wasn't the biological father; if they both slept with Sarah then there was no way for them to know who was the biological father anyway.

I also think that, at the bottom of things, Freddie wasn't Jess' biological father, and they both knew it. But at this particular moment, he wasn't just her uncle, he was Acting Alfred Borden. Maybe in his eyes Jess wasn't really his blood, but *he* was, in hers. He did and said what a real father would tell in his place. That's "living a single life" for you, And, unlike loving Sarah, it wasn't like he had to force himself to love Jess, it came naturally enough as it was.

Well if they both had sex with her they wouldnt be able to tell.And geneticly she would show up as both their daughters so I don't think it mattered.

The hanged Borden was probably the true father. It is shown with his interactions with Jess, that he truly has the spirit of a father, while the other Bordon more so behaves like a grandfather. A grandfather loves the child like he/she is his own, but it is not truly his.

It was heavily implied that Jess' daughter was the one who died. However, the surviving twin has always treated Jess like a daughter, and she saw him as her father. She will never know that her true biological father, Olivia' lover, died.

With Olivia knowing when he didn't really mean "I love you", it makes sense that they didn't have sex when Borden was not the one who loved her. However, we will never know to what extend the twins shared everything. But, as I said, it seemed like there was a clear difference between who each twin loved and desired.

While I think people understandably assume it's the Bordon that truly loved Sarah, I think it's more interesting and disturbing that we actually can never know. I know the Freddie Bordon did say, "We should have told Fallon" but that could just be because he knew that Bordon would be happy since he loves Sarah. But since we know they share one life completely, it's likely Freddie slept with Sarah sometimes. And maybe one of those times conceived Jess. Really makes you understand even more why Sarah killed herself. She could have had that same thought, of how many times she actually slept with her husbands twin brother and could he be the father.

The Borden that walked out with Jess at the end... the one who lives, was Jess's real father. HE was the one who loved Sarah. The Borden that hung was the one who loved Olivia.

They each lived ½ a life, so of course they both cared for Jess. But each only loved the woman they loved. That is why Sarah knew that half of the time, "her husband" didn't really love her.

Interesting that for all the conversations throughout the show, there was never a lie told. That is unless, it was told my Angier out of spite toward Borden.

There’s no way to know that. As much as they constantly switched places it’s impossible to know who actually impregnated Sarah. All we know is that the Borden who lived loved Sarah.
