This movie was funny but lacking in any kind of substance
Parts of this film made me laugh, and the lead actress was hot. That's about all that can be said in its favour.
The characters were just exaggerations of what the most misguided of Americans (or anyone else?) may think about British people.
Camford's obviously supposed to be Oxford or Cambridge, and neither of these universities bears any resemblance to how this university is treated in the film. What's presented is a teen version of Harry Potter, with cups, aristocracy, fencing, and dog shows. The characters are just regional stereotypes. Also, not everyone's a Lord or an Earl here ffs (although class still does hold influence).
Oh, also, we don't have frat houses or anything like whatever those clubs were supposed to be, and that's a pretty big flaw because the team rivalry was a big part of the movie.
The writers just used huge chunks of plot and character development from the first Van Wilder movie. Cool lead character meets attractive female with pompous boyfriend who's initially resistant but changes her mind in an unbelievably short period of time. Pranks are pulled, something's planted by said obnoxious boyfriend which results in expulsion, but that's not a problem for long.
It's a good thing this movie's flaws have been recognised and it's somewhere in the bottom 100 ever, but sadly all it's going to do for the less informed is perpetuate myths about England and English culture.
