Why do you think the Van Wilder 2 film flopped so badly in North America

While the first Van film didn't do that great at the North American box office, it managed to make (from it's low budget) almost 4 times it's budget (which is a result that all film studios would kill for on all their films they release) and did even more business on DVD than it ever made from it's cinema takings, so why do you think the sequel flopped so badly in comparison, as it's only made a measly $US 5 mill.

When a film has a combination of bad reviews and bad word-of-mouth, it's going to fail to make much.

Kal Penn can't carry the a movie, plus Van Wilder wasn't even in it. You can't have a Van Wilder sequel without having the MAIN CHARACTER.

Kal Penn CAN carry a movie. Just not a terribly written one where he is surrounded by a dearth of talent.

Sequels to comedies that don't even include tha min character from the original character/actor are just stupid (see dumb and dumberer)

Uh, because it's *beep* LOL

Trouble is it will happen if Hollywood insists on knocking out crap sequels for the sake of it. Point about the original was that Van's issues were resolved by the end - it never needed a follow-up. Therefore movie-goers saw it for what it was, a cheap cynical rehash with none of the charm of the original.

Three critical mistakes they made:

- Dropping Van for Taj as the main character
- Having an unknown supporting cast (Paul Gleason and Tim Matheson were excellent choices for the original)
- Leaving a four year gap between VW:PL and VW:RoT and missing the hype of the original's DVD release completely

because Van Wilder films are the weakest in the National Lampoon series. Van Wilder (original) was really really bad.

reply

National Lampoon got a lot of crap movies, Van Wilder #1 isn't one of them...

Try gold diggers...

Van Wilder wasn't a bad movie. The sequel (If it can even be called that) was nothing more than an attempt with a half brained script to make more money.
