Strange treatment of property in the story

Liam Neeson owns all the horses that the group rides. One guy finds a wanted criminal and decides to leave the group. To retaliate the Neeson character shoots the horse. Totally unnecessary. He could have just reclaimed the horse and brought it along. Especially since later on he loses his own horse. It would have come in very handy.

The Angelica Huston character makes a deal with the Pierce Brosnan character. She gives him a bullet in exchange for his horse and says she will throw in a bottle of the rum elixir, even though he previously said he didn't want it. But still after he has walked away she throws it after it and it breaks into pieces on the ground. So unnecessary to destroy it.

You can say it was a metaphor for the self destructive behavior that they had.

Also her offering alcohol in the middle of a desert makes no sense, it would make you more thirsty, you need water...but when you understand her motivations you'll see she is taunting Gideon (Pierce Brosnan). Consider what was written on the back of her wagon "Louise C. Fair"...think of those words? Do you understand?

Theres a certain amount of spirituality at the movies climax with Wes Studie (the indian) and Angelica Huston (the snakewater/oil peddler).

On the horse thing
Dude was paid to find the Brosnan Charechtor 250$ and a horse

They hadn't found him yet, and dude decided to quit and take the dead guy back for the reward
Goes to mount the dead guy on the horse to go how ever far and he shoots the horse because the dude didn't complete what he was hired for and the horse still belonged to Neeson, -- Killing the horse in Neesons mind made it even
NOW dude might not make it to town alive much less with the dead guy
