Needed to improve bad guy element and “great heist” feel

This movie needed better structure and explanation.

Firstly the bad guy, besides turning people to blobs of goo, wasn’t really that bad was he? He’s an ambitious businessman, not exactly the most scary of characters.

He wants to sell the suit to HYDRA, and unless you’re into the Marvel Universe, this fact would be totally missed.

They needed to SHOW the ramifications of this technology being used by HYDRA. Cinema is a visual art, less telling, more showing.

Then we’ve got our protagonist. A great thief. This fact needed to be highlighted more. Why is he so good that Pym would concoct an elaborate game of Chinese whispers to get him to rob the suit?

Then there is the mission, it had some good elements but it should have been more elaborate. He has to steal a signal blocker from the avengers lab. That’s it? That’s the best idea they could come up with? Why not a special gun? Or hologram or something cool?

I think this movie was entertaining but they could have created something more epic.

Another weakness is the lack of humor. I mean, the premise is absolutely ridiculous, I mean ANTS? Stan Lee himself said that the idea of an ant superhero was the most ludicrous thing he ever published! So why not have some fun with the absurdity of the situation, I mean Marvel films are known for including some good laughs, right? Yet there weren't any, just a few chuckles during the finale fight scene, what a wasted opportunity.

It's just wrong, they started with an absurd idea for a superhero, and took it absolutely seriously. Feh.

Can someone tell me if the sequel is any better on that front? I haven't seen it yet.
