the topless bartender/waitress

During this scene, I was seeing the face of actress Frances Fisher, but her body looked younger to me. I mean, this is the woman who played Rose's mom in Titanic. She's 55. Is that how most women's body look at 55? I can't help but think she insisted on a topless scene just so she could show off how much younger her body looks than her face. Anybody else have a similar reaction?

reply

Sorry, I didn't even notice her face.

reply

Well enough exercise and sports and healthy food does something for the body but not for face and hands.I must admit it looked a bit strange for me to.

reply

Okay, glad I wasn't the only one who thought it looked strange.

reply

oh well she looked good tho

It wasn't her body. Stunt double. They should have just hired the lady whose breasts were on display to be the bartender.

reply

Um, you CLEARLY see her face during the topless scene, and it's definitely Frances Fisher, not a stunt double.

You moron, I didn't say it wasn't her face. I said it wasn't her body. They posted her face on the body of a clearly younger actress.

If you really are Jack Bauer, it's a good thing you got poisoned in the 2008-09 season as it would be very dangerous to entrust you in national security matters.

Yes, your theory makes perfect sense; the production team would have chosen to commit many thousands of dollars to perform meticulous CGI effects instead of simply hiring an actress whose body was not so offensive-looking -- as you are presuming a 55-year-old woman's would need to look.

This was the actress' face and body, and the body was very likely helped by the flattering lighting in the bar scene -- as opposed to the harsh daylight in the diner, exposing her age. I think the director consciously chose to shock an audience who is so youth-oriented as to think an older person must be disgusting looking. This is why he made a point of taking such brutal close-shots of the actress' face and hands, exposing all of the wrinkles; such a revelation forced audience members to think again with their set-in-ways opinions.

For example, the following commentator, Mannequin, wrote:

"Jesus Christ, those were halfway decent titties (but completely flat) with a grandmother face. Absolutely repulsive. I wanted to stab myself in the eyes."

No doubt this fool didn't think such thoughts as he watched the nude woman in the bar -- because what we all saw was a great looking figure. (That was the whole point.) He only felt this way after he saw the old looking face and hands, and because society told his little mind that it is just plain wrong to find older people attractive, he had to let everyone know how "cool" he was by behaving in the right way. (He was probably trying to make up for his guilt for feeling turned on.) Aptly named, this Mannequin.

Why do you presume to know how much it would cost them to make those CGI effects, if they wanted to?

Also, evolutionarily speaking it is normal for men to value youth in a woman (for fertility). So it is quite possibly not "society" but natural instinct that made people not like the old face even though it had nice titties.

Even without an EXACT price, which do you think would cost more A)Two actresses, extra set time to get the match, the CGI to blend the two, and the post production work to cut it all together, or B) Hire an actress who is OK with getting her tits out (regardless of age)?

You do realise that films have budgets don't you? There isn't an endless supply of money to spend on the directors every whim (even for the top earners), the money they have must be spent wisely, and nobody with ANY understanding of money/budgets would say your theory is a worthwhile spend LOL

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved?

You all obviously don't know any 50+ women's bodies.

I am 56 and my body isn't bad at all. the women I know have very nice bodies especially the ones who work out. It's the 60's that change women's bodies more and only the ones with light, thin skin. Olive skinned women can have nice bodies into their 70's..my aunt is a 78 yo Italian woman who still has a very firm body.

That was Frances Fisher's body, just look at pics of her in strapless dresses, etc.

reply

I'm pointing this out from an error I saw in the movie. The face of frances fisher and the body shown did not line up correctly. Look, if there are 50 year olds out there with good looking bodies, more power to them. I am merely saying that in this case, the editing team of this movie messed up and didn't doctor the scene as skillfully as they could have. I watched the movie on my DVR and I rewinded it several times because I remember Frances Fisher from Unforgiven and she didn't look like she had a firm body underneath her clothes back then in 1992. In the scene she appears in later her hands don't look as youthful.

reply

I rewatched the scene too, since it is On Demand here, and see nothing to indicate that isn't her body. I have a friend who is a camera man on several TV shows and I asked him about it. He explained that it is so difficult to do that on a moving body, it is rarely done; photos are easier.

That is what most 50 yo women's bodies look like when they exercise. The Unforgiven was a long time ago and when an actress knows she has a nude scene coming up, they hit the gym for hours a day, as much as 6-8 hours at times. I live near LA LA Land and know how hard everyone around here works to keep firm. Most of my friends have personal trainers and they aren't in the biz at all.

Hands are the first thing to age because we neglect to put sunscreen on them all the time, focusing mostly on the face instead, but the hands get the most exposure. The new thing now is to have laser treatments on hands and arms to reduce that aging look.

Go out with a 50+ woman and see what they look like for yourself. Besides, cosmetic surgery has come a long way, you should see my 55 yo friend..Oh la la!!

reply

Your camera man friend is right. It's hard to do and that's why I saw the error. Even my girlfriend noticed it and she's not what anyone would call a hardcore movie watcher. They touched up her face as well for that scene where the waitress is topless but didn't do it for the later scene. You can argue your point as much as you want but I'm NEVER going to believe that was her body.

reply

Well, not to sound too conceited but my body is better than hers and I am in my late 50's, my 57 yo neighbor looks so good she still wears bikinis, she does pilates and was a dancer for 30 years. Another friend is turning 60 and she looks fabulous and much better than Ms Fisher.

Think what you will, but your point was that no one that age can look that good and my point is, they can even look much better.

This is a fairly recent picture of Frances, undoctered. Looks like the same body to me.

reply

My point was that Frances's body did not match her face editing wise in the two different shots. I'm just saying I noticed an editing error. It has nothing to do with women her age.

reply

There was no editing error.

JackBauer,

Both you and your girlfriend are delusional nitwits.

reply

Oh for god's sake, you've been answered half a dozen times. Get over it already it's her body. I've seen her in other movies after this one, and she is very toned. Even Diane Keaton had a damn nice body at her age in Somethings Gotta Give, and she was much older than Fischer was here. You sound like a whiny schoolboy who knows he's wrong but refuses to admit it. Even when someone with a friend in the industry mentions it's immensely hard to do (and something no small, indie movie could afford, you still whine on. Jeez.

reply

Okay, I stand corrected. Nonetheless, you're still incorrect. It's her.

Was the place where she was working a strip club? Maybe I just didn't notice but it didn't have the traditional poles and loud noises and what not?

It seemed like it was just a bar that happened to have a half naked bartender...but that doesn't make any sense.

So what is it? A topless bar but one without strippers?

Yes it happens all the time. A bar might have topless barmaids on friday and saturday nights. Makes sense. Also I think she was wearing a wig when she was at work beind the bar. No-one else mentioned this out of all the people who posted. wtf?

seriously my tits are better and i'm a bloke

You all are missing the forest for the tits. Or something.

Haggis wrote Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima and Flag of Our Fathers for Clint Eastwood. Then he writes In the Valley of Elah so he can direct Clint. Clint says no, I don't want to do your movie. So Haggis hires Clint's ex, with whom he has a strained relationship. And for good measure, she enters the movie tits first.

I thought it was hilarious. And Ms. Fischer looks good, I don't know what you people are talking about.

I did notice that Hagggis didn't write any scripts for Eastwood after this.

Yeah, me. I was like: "That's the mother from 'Titanic'? She looked old then (which was a whole decade earlier) and her body's in this good of shape?" I was impressed.
