So exhausting so American

Enough of those movies with same plot, same dialogs, same heros/anti heros, same twists, same ending, same American "values"...same hypocrisy...same old bullsh** !

Men aren't humble and brave heros, kids

My respect to late Tony Scott, great entertainer, but no artist.

reply

America is living in your head rent free. LOL at your whining just don't watch it if it's to American and exhausting for you and go back to sipping tea and watching some Downton Abbey or something more your pace.

reply

I never watched downtown abbey, I don't drink tea.
But I do watch good movies, some American ones, some not.
I just don't like "easy" recycled movie, like unstoppable

reply

Joke's on you - with some dramatic embellishment on the side-stories, the basics of the story are true.

The engineers of the true story, at great risk to themselves DID lash onto the end of a runaway train to bring it under control :)

So, by your own words, Americans really are so awesome it's literally unbelievable. As penance go pay respect any of our war dead resting in European soil.

reply

Lol really? Bringing war over this subject? Fine then you should know you own your independency over France too.
That's exactly the "embellishment" that I'm exhausted about.
I know it was based on a true story, then why not telling it the way it really happened, without all the "American hero" exageration BS?
Because American like to exaggerate, just like you just did bringing WW2 into a movie's debate

The fact that we left thousands of men buried in European soil thanks to the effort to liberate the continent from fascist oppression is also no exaggeration - obviously your problem is your rabid anti-Americanism doesn't square with reality.

reply

Reality is also your extreme pro Americanism, for taking credit over something your ancestors did, not you, and all my respect to those brave men but if you listen every American it's like we owe you for the eternity. Childish also to believe you ONLY came to war for nothing but freeing poor oppressed European people, there was obviously more to it, economical reasons, otherwise why aren't you in north Korea right now?
You only look at part of the history you can brag about. And again you forget French also fought for you in the past. But we're not here to remind you everytime you criticise a French movie.
I'm not anti American, I actually love a lot of American movies, artists and historic men.
But one thing I don't like and will never change is the huge lack of humility of a bunch of them

reply

We ARE in Korea now. That war is still technically not over yet. The Cold War and the intervention of China to save the Pyongyang government is the reason for the cease-fire. So long after the slaughter of WW2 there was no stomach for another large-scale war.

And I am not anti-French, I very much enjoyed my time in Paris (a well-timed trip as I'd just completed a four-semester French language course and only spoke English to my friends for the entire trip).

And don't think I forgo my appreciation to the French or Lafayette, whose contribution to the Revolution remains under-appreciated to this day.

So now that I have you here - how does the film indulge itself in "American hypocrisy"?

reply

Overexagerating heroism

This is not youtube, we don't insult people here. Your post has been reported.

reply

Do you mean that it really took two hours and many mistakes to finally decide to have someone jumping in the train? Really a work of genius! lol

More seriously that's how I felt about this movie. Not even able to derail a train. Please.

reply

Lol, fair point... I didn't see the movie, but after seeing the trailer, I couldn't help but think of the movie "Speed". It's an older movie, but it had a similar concept. Basically, Keanu Reeves has to keep a bus from going over, or under a certain speed or it'll trigger an explosive device that's wired on the bus. There was a sequel with Sandra Bullock that no one liked, but again another similar concept. So you have a big vehicle, public transportation, which is about to be used to wreak havoc, and the heroes or heroine, that's trying to put an end to the situation without a lot of casualties.

reply

i liked it but i get what you mean. i rolled my eyes a couple of times, especially at the end credits. sigh

i've got feelings too, ya know - inbetweeners
