That train is moving way faster than a helicopter could. It was unsafe speeds. They would also need a long stretch where there was no trees, tunnels or anything in the way. It wasn't that easy for a helicopter to comfortably go at that speed and drop someone down on it. Not only that but they'd probably have to drop a rail worker who knew how to stop it.

Whuch made no sense. He would only have been sent flying back along the train if the train had suddenly accelerated, but it didn't: it hppened when the braking engine in front of it banged into it to slow it down. If anything, he should have been thrown forward.
And speaking of the braking engine: it had a rear deck, and the runaway had a front deck; when they were pushed together, the two decks were less than two feet apart. Why didn't they put someone on the rear of the braking engine and have him swing across the handrails onto the deck of the runaway, and simply stop the thing? It would have been a lot less risky than being lowered onto the thing by helicopter, or jumping from six feet away from the bed of a maintenance truck. (I know, it wasn't the kind of movie to do thngs logically.)
