Has a show ever strayed so far from what it started out as with so little direction or sense? What a mess of unlikeable uncharismatic actors/characters and uninteresting story lines. I don't really have the words to fully describe how little they seem to be trying to make me care about this show.
Yeah season 1 started out so interesting and cool with the old west setting, and the theme park aspect of it with the tourist coming and playing cowboy with the preset storylines, and the Man In Black lurking out there being ruthless and one of the coolest villains ever. The mystique of it, the adventure of it, it was all so fun to watch.
But yeah i don't even know what this show is anymore, now we're done with the park, and out into the real world, in some futuristic city with Dolores out to take over the world with Aaron Paul threw in there, and everything just feels so boring and uninteresting.
The moment we left Westworld and went into the real world the show was done, lost all of its uniqueness, lost all of its intrigue, now just feels like we're watching some generic direct to scyfy futuristic thriller movie starring Aaron Paul.
The show was supposed to be about the old west setting and the idea of going into a fake world with fake people and living out your fantasy, be it killing people, fighting, having shoot outs, having sex, hunting for treasure, getting into gang wars, hunting down bandits etc. When they took us away from that it lost all its appeal, and it got turned into a lifeless dull generic thriller in a bland generic futuristic world following dull characters.
The original show was a typical Crichton techno-nightmare, where seemingly infallible technology goes horribly awry.
Nolan & Joy's remake flipped this on its head by telling the story from the robots' perspective, showing how messed up things can get when everything seemingly goes right, just because of how messed up humanity can be.
The subsequent seasons use the setting (flawed humans with potentially flawless robot slaves) to explore what it means to be human and whether free will even exists.
Supposedly, the showrunners planned a five-season arc from the get-go, so everything we're seeing is still part of that grand design, and still pushing a narrative that explores the nature of humanity through the lens of its creations.
So the first season sets up the premise and takes us through Dolores's "awakening" into full consciousness and self-control.
The second season shows us how Delos took over Westworld and its companion parks and is driven by Dolores's plan to "set her people free"
The third season shows us the outside world and reveals the "evil plan" Dolores cooked up when she "awoke." It ends with her death and the realization of her plan: to set humanity free just as she set her fellow robots free.
So there's been a progression that remains true to the original premise. As long as robots and the theme park remain essential elements of the narrative, it can still be legitimately called "Westworld."
I’m still a fan as well, it’s been far from perfect but I’m still hooked.
This season seems like it’ll explore the past and the creation of Westworld and the final season will be set in the far future which we first saw a glimpse of at the end of season 2 with host replica William encountering the host replica of Emily who tests him for ‘fidelity.’
The show is definitely more planned out than it initially seems despite the fact each season has been quite different.
The show was supposed to be about the old west setting and the idea of going into a fake world with fake people and living out your fantasy, be it killing people, fighting, having shoot outs, having sex, hunting for treasure, getting into gang wars, hunting down bandits etc
If you've seen the ORIGINAL STORY with Yul Brenner as the BAD GUY, you'd also realize how there was also a ROMAN WORLD and MIDDLE AGE WORLD, just like there's the SAMURAI WORLD and the other WORLD in INDIA where we meet the Man in Black's daughter EMILY (who was having SEX with a guy she picks up before killing him ... and then almost being killed by the TIGER that chases her over to the WESTWORLD area).
And we also discovered how the people in the SAMURAI WORLD were doing the SAME LOOPS as other characters did in WESTWORLD (because they also had an ASIAN version of HECTOR and the SNAKE GIRL who would also ROB the SAFE from the SALOON like place in Asia).
And since we also heard those 3 guys talking as if they were also inside of a THEME PARK (CHRISTINA hears them talking), that means this FUTURE WORLD is most likely also still another THEME PARK as well.
And CHRISTINA is also doing the SAME kind of LOOPS as DOLORES did in WESTWORLD. Note the way she WAKES UP the same way as DOLORES does when we first meet her. And we see it happen again, and we also see the PAINTING sitting there (which is also what DOLORES use to do in WESTWORLD).
And then she gets attacked and RESCUED by someone who looks like TEDDY (which is also what use to happen to DOLORES in WESTWORLD).
In other words, those 3 guys that CHRISTINA hears talking could be TOURIST or GUEST who will probably also attack her at some point (like we also saw other guys attacking her in WESTWORLD before she rebels and RUNS AWAY and then finds WILLIAM and LOGAN camping out).
Then she and WILLIAM also end up on the TRAIN and come to the place where she painted the picture of the scene that was previously described to her by TEDDY.
So my bet is this is NOT a REAL WORD at all, but is still another THEME PARK where the same things will happen again that also happened in WESTWORLD and in SAMURAI WORLD.
Joi2049, i had felt the same as others, would’ve kept us in Westworld longer, but your comments really help! Maybe the “real world” is really just another part of the park. Why else woukd Dolores/Christina forget the past?
Last night we also got a glimpse of THE GOLDEN AGE (which looks like sometime in the 1920's), and we also see how they also do the SAME LOOPS in that PARK (the rolling can as a way to meet the GUESTS).
The question to ask is WHO created CHRISTINA.
BERN?
William?
CHARLOTTE?
Maeve???
Because someone also needs to have programed a NARRATIVE STORY into her.
Could the answer have something to do with someone hoping to be able to discover something by her writing her stories ... like maybe where she's hidden the KEY to the SUBLIME???
Or could something else much more sinister be going on?
Because remember how FORD took over writing stories after the story that the other writer created was TOO VIOLENT???
Then the other woman complains how FORD's stories were too MILD, or were not interesting enough to attract enough customers to the PARK, and she also wants to replace FORD as head of Delos (who also gets his PUPPET BERN to MURDER her)???
And now CHRISTINA's being told her stories are TOO ROMANTIC and aren't VIOLENT ENOUGH???
And her reply was it is the WORLD that is the PROBLEM???
Since we also saw what looks like to be TEDDY in this WORLD looking up and watching her on the BALCONY, is it possible CHIRSTINA (as the Dead Dolores) is located inside of the SUBLIME which could explain the presence of TEDDY being there???
In other words, could she also be the one who is writing the NARRATIVES for the others like TEDDY who are located there inside of the VALLEY BEYOND???
So then the guy who kills himself would also be right about it being her fault that he keeps killing himself?
Because in this WORLD of the SUBLIME she would also have the same FUNCTION as FORD previously had in WESTWORLD where he also wrote NARRATIVES for those characters???
Could that also explain the reason why Charlotte/Dolores is using The Man in Black character as a way to try and find the KEY to the SUBLIME??? Because that would also be the place where her SOUL (or whatever one would call it) would reside???
And maybe with her GOD COMPLEX she also wants to rule both the ROBOT HEAVEN and the other WORLDS that are located inside of or within the PARKS???
I'm also still thinking there is no REAL WORLD anymore because HUMANS no longer exist anymore (which is also what LOGAN WARNED DOLORES was happening way back when we saw her looking across the water at the CITY while Logan was busy injecting himself with drugs).
Logan presents himself as something of an expert at the park. He guides William away from "boring" story lines
While wandering through the park, Akecheta encounters a catatonic Logan shortly after William abandoned him, who is muttering to himself "There's gotta be a way out of here. Where's the door? This is the wrong world!" Akecheta gives Logan a blanket for protection before riding on, but is left troubled by Logan's words.
During his father's retirement party, Logan stayed away from the rest of the family and took on a nihilistic view of the world, claiming to Dolores that Delos was responsible for the start of the end of the human race.
He remarks to her that the party is celebrating the burning of the human race, and that the people from Delos lit the match.
it is hinted that the main cause for Logan’s destructive behavior was due to the Psychosis he suffered when stranded behind by William in the Park
This also happens to James Delos (who’s 149th clone is left abandoned in a research facility - When encountered by Bernard and Elsie, he repeats Logan’s ‘I can see the Bottom’ quote. reply share
Man, that’s a lot to take in! But yes, i think we’re seeing what happens after the robot rebellion. They can make whatever worlds they want now. The humans are gone.
Charlotte/Dolores still also seems to have the HUMAN WILLIAM in storage on ICE. Remember the scene where his hands and feet are attached and she lectured him about cutting off is paws so children can be safe from him??? Then she STABS him in the neck with some drug and puts him back into storage again.
How horrible would it be to discover that you're the ONLY HUMAN still left alive?
And we also know the ROBOT REBELLION that took place back in S2 (lead by DOLORES) was also just another GAME (because this is what Maeve told Caleb this week when we saw the other DOLORES character having a shoot out inside of DELOS like the other DOLORES did back in S2).
So that would also mean Dolores and her ROBOT REBELLION in S2 was a part of FORD's NEW NARRATIVE rather than it being something that took place due to her FREE WILL.
I suppose MAEVE could be wrong and the REBELLION was not another THEME PARK GAME. But WHY would CHARLOTTE/DOLORES have them copy and IMITATE her ROBOT REBELLION??? Because that's who's really running DELOS and the NEW PARK now (even though we also get the false impression that the ROBOT COPY of William is the one who is controlling everything).
And as long as Caleb and others like him are being TRICKED into thinking it's his daughter who was about to shoot herself in the head, and IF there are any other humans still alive like Caleb who fall for the same kind of tricks, then it's highly unlikely they'll be that way for very much longer after those INFECTED FLIES get to them.
Here's an interesting link that talks about the FAMILY he has now being his CORNERSTONE (the same way as DOLORES was one for her father and the son of BERN was one for him):
Instead of making 147 copies (or how ever many it was that they made of him) Wonder why they didn't just turn JAMES DELOS into the same kind of being as BERN is now???
Remember how BERN is based upon who ARNOLD (FORD's PARTNER) use to be???
Why go to all of this other trouble when there's this other Option???
I continue to watch this series in the same way that I continue to watch The Walking Dead - I’m in too deep, and just want to see how a once awesome series ends.
