“Exploring the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.”

This is how my Xfinity X1 box describes every episode of Westworld that’s available On Demand. I don’t know if every HBO carrier has the same description. Perhaps they do. The description is a very useful touchstone for understanding what this season, and maybe the entire series, is about. It’s about artificial consciousness—self-awareness—and not about mere artificial intelligence—the ability to think as a disembodied mind. It’s about the EVOLUTION of sin, not just about sin. It’s about self-aware brings, both natural and artificial, sinking ever deeper into depravity while living in a world that is allegedly out of the sight of God.

And what will happen when and if God shows up?

reply

It's a nice catchphrase but the authors have no notion of AI and a very vague understanding of what consciousness is.
And sin? Please.

reply

William is God, Robert is the devil, Arnold is Faust.

William is God?
Are we watching the same show?
Did you miss the last episode when his own daughter said " you are a liar to the core".
William is the most Egotistical, self-centered AH who lives in his own head in false reality.
He is a far cry from any GOD

reply

Old testament God was not such a great guy for everyone, remember?

reply

Sorry, I don't believe in God, and never the fiction called the Bible either.

reply

Who cares? It's useful to know the stories.
