If you were the movie studio who gave $20 million to the Coen Brothers..

...to make this movie, would you be leaked off? Maybe you have to be a graduate of Harvard or Princeton to "get" this movie. My reaction to this movie was the same as when I saw the first Woody Allen movie that was a bomb after all the home runs he hit. I think the movie is as self indulgent and pretentious as a Yoko Ono movie (see Fly). Ouch!

This movie made 63 million at the boxoffice, the studio made it's money back and got some profit even before home video sales. So I'm sure they're all right with it.

In fact it's No 5 on the highest grossing movies the Coens ever made. Not that bad at all.

The production budget was $22 million and the domestic gross was only $30 million. The distributor released it February 5 because they knew that it sucked. They knew that audiences would dislike it, after seeing the extremely misleading trailers. Those trailers made it sound like a caper comedy with lots of well-known stars all trying to find George Clooney's kidnapped character. Instead they got a self-indulgent look at the film industry, which audiences usually find boring.

Foreign gross was $33 million for a total of $63 million.
