Will the Coen Bros. ever make another movie that doesn't suck?

Why haven't I liked one film they've made since the mid-90's? Because I'm just a moron? It's weird that I almost always agree with the prevailing critics' sentiments on films. When movies average great reviews, I almost always end up liking them. So why have I disliked every Coen Bros. movie since about Fargo? I actually love The Hudsucker Proxy the most. I was a very big fan. Now they continue to disappoint me over and over. I guess with an IQ of 135, I'm not brilliant enough to appreciate their last several movies. I'm also Jewish. What difference does that make, you ask? Coen. Bros. movies were once easy to relate to. I don't know if it had to do with our similar upbringings or not, but what the hell has happened to them? When a 40-something Jewish film buff can't get into movie after movie of theirs, can't they figure out they've gotten off track? Trying to decide which I hated more, this one or No Country for Old Men.

They already have plenty of them.

An hour of my life I'll never get back. I don't know how I managed to last that long before I gave up.

reply

Hopefully they will. They failed big time with Hail Caesar. More than once I could not help thinking "this is no Fargo"

i am an expert on movies so i can tell you as a fact Coen brothers only made few Turkey's worse being the Burn After Reading most of their films were good and best being the No Country For Old Man, you need to watch Coen movies Few times Before deciding, i personally think you are just being trolling, i can not speak about Hail Cesar not seen it yet.

reply

The only turkey i've seen from the Coen brothers was 'Intolerable Cruelty'. They have a few average films too...

Their old films are great, but for me it all started with 'The Big Liewbowski'. 'Burn After Reading' was a funny story, and 'A Serious Man' i really enjoyed, although i didn't like it and turned it off 30 mins in to watching it the first time i saw it.

Every film they have made since 'No Country For Old Men' has been a hit, not true for 'Hail Ceaser'. It is one of their average ones.

i have seen the movie now and it was bad but not as bad as Burn After Reading.

IQ is meaningless when it comes to understanding films. Maybe you should put your IQ to work and learn a bit about the subject because No Country For Old Men, A Serious Man, True Grit and Inside Llewyn Davis are all good films.

Everyone still picking apart his brief comment about his IQ instead of his legitimate comments about the film. Well played guys.

"YOU WANT THEM TO DO TRICKS!? I WANT THEM TO DROP OVER!!!!"

Ok. Now point out one legitimate comment he made about the film.

He doesn't discuss the film at all. Nothing about character, plot, theme, setting, cinematography. Not one single reference to the movie at all.

So yes. They're attacking the "IQ of 135" comment because the rest of the post was vacuous. He doesn't really say anything except, "I used to like their movies. Now I don't." Only it takes him about 20 sentences to say the same thing.

The IQ mention really adds a layer of twatdom, nice.

I think they'll worry about going off track once they stop getting consistently good reviews from critics.

Coen brothers might have created one of the best bodies of work there is, blood simple, millers crossing and barton fink were early masterpieces, with fargo, the man who wasn't there and the big lebowski (one of the most hilarious movies ever, seen it like 20 times) they were on top of their game, wasn't all that convinced by their next 3 efforts, o brother, although the soundtrack was memorable, intolerable cruelty and ladykillers (bad movie with an unconvincing tom hanks who can do so much better). No Country...what a brilliant comeback, burn after reading was ok-ish, true grit on par with the original, haven't seen the others
