Will the Coen Bros. ever make another movie that doesn't suck?

Why haven't I liked one film they've made since the mid-90's? Because I'm just a moron? It's weird that I almost always agree with the prevailing critics' sentiments on films. When movies average great reviews, I almost always end up liking them. So why have I disliked every Coen Bros. movie since about Fargo? I actually love The Hudsucker Proxy the most. I was a very big fan. Now they continue to disappoint me over and over. I guess with an IQ of 135, I'm not brilliant enough to appreciate their last several movies. I'm also Jewish. What difference does that make, you ask? Coen. Bros. movies were once easy to relate to. I don't know if it had to do with our similar upbringings or not, but what the hell has happened to them? When a 40-something Jewish film buff can't get into movie after movie of theirs, can't they figure out they've gotten off track? Trying to decide which I hated more, this one or No Country for Old Men.

I can't think of one that sucks. You must be imagining things.

Although I agree with the substance of your post OP (IE. I sincerely do NOT believe the Coen's will make another movie that does NOT suck) I have to disagree with your timeline of when they starting going downhill.

Burn After Reading was quite enjoyable for me; The Big Lewbowski was a comedic classic; and No Country For Old Men is without a doubt my FAVOURITE Cohen film!! It is a matter of opinion after all though. Fargo was of course unique and novel in its own right.

In my honest opinion, I thought a Serious Man was the start of their downhill trend and have not shown any signs of recovery with every movie thereafter (True Grit was NOT BAD).

I have no hopes for the Coen brothers in future however - I will probably never watch another one of their films.

Surprised that I've seen no mention of "Barton Fink" (1991) and I've read most of these pages. That was a very good one with Goodman stealing the show again.

No Country for Old Men won the Oscar for Best Picture. It's odd that the Coen's didn't realize that they were off track because you didn't like it.

"Boy that was really exciting. I bet you're a big Lee Marvin fan aren't ya."

I have to agree with you. I watch this film today and kept waiting for it to start. There is this thing called "a story", and these guys seem to have forgotten this completely. This was a complete waste of talent, my time, and celluloid (if they still use it).

No. They're old and they used up all of their good ideas a long time ago. On top of that, critics kiss their asses and tell them that they're *beep* smells like gold so they have no reason to think that they're just crapping out regular, stinky turds.
