Laurie and Dito -- Why didn't he take her to CA?

I was never really clear on why Dito didn't take Laurie with him when he left. Maybe he didn't want to be resposible for another person when he wasn't sure what he was going to do himself.

I hope it wasn't because "he just wasn't that into her."

Whatever the reason, he did say in the beginning he was going to leave everybody in this film so he could deliver the ol' "but no one has ever left me" finisher...I wonder if that was supposed to be a Prodigal Son reference.

Well, he was stoned when he told her he loved her and wanted to take her with him.

OK so she was a teenager, but she was one INCREDIBLY NEEDY biatch. "You better take me with you. Why won't you take me with you?" "You're gonna leave me right now?", "You really hurt me."

I wanted to hurl a pickaxe at her head thru the TV.

In real life, it would be years later that Dito left California. Not mentioned in the film is that Dito was discovered as a male model by Click Models, shot campaigns for Bruce Weber and then his band was actually discovered by Geffen. That's really when he moved out West and I don't think it would've made sense to bring a girlfriend, although their relationship may have deteriorated by that point.
