Jake is a wonderful actor whose charisma singlehandedly saved this film. (No it's not a masterpiece movie, but it was a lot of fun and action, which is what Summertime blockbusters should be).

I don't understand some of the comments I've seen about Gyllenhall. Miscast--perhaps just a race thing? because otherwise I don't see anything inappropriate about him as Dastan at all. Nerdy? Ahem, that bod is far from nerdy. Take it from a female: all those "not masculine" comments sound like they're coming from a lot of jealous males.

Yeah, it seems all the hate about Gyllenhaal is a race thing and its mostly stirred up by people who haven't seen the film. I thought he fit the role really well.

If he was allowed to go with a different accent other than the British one, I would agree with you guys. Costner knew he couldn't do an accent, and people still liked Robin Hood

reply

I think he did a great job. Definitely not his typical role.

As a Brit I was pleseantly surprised by his accent. Really thought he carried it for most of the movie.

Yeh he did well I thought.

I find that ducks opinion of me is very much influenced over whether or not i have bread.

I am SO glad to finally see so many people posting that they really liked Jake in this movie & thought he was not miscast. I am so sick of the haters complaining about the movie & Jake. I truly believe most of them didn't even give it a chance, (or didn't see it at all), but are trying so hard to sound like cinesnobs. That's so irritating to me, that word of mouth can virtually kill a great movie & so can critics. The overseas market took to this movie WAY more than the states & I live here, & can't for the life of me figure out why. It was an excellent fantasy action flick that was a very fun romp that you could sit back & just lose yourself in. It didn't take major brain cells to understand any of it like Inception (which I did like very much, BTW), & that's what I want in a lot of movies, an escape from reality & to take me away to another place & time. Inception did that too, but it was not a movie you could just sit back & enjoy the ride so much, you really had to think hard on that one & you don't need to with PoP. Besides that, all the actors did a great job & Bruckheimer movies never disappoint, I don't think, because they don't skimp on the budget. It is obvious with all the great scenery of the Moroccan desert & cities & the excellent Parkour stunts that Jake did most of himself.

There's my 2 cents.

I thought Jake did a great job. He looks the part. I am starting to be a big fan of his because of Day After Tomorrow and Brothers.

a better question would be "why would anyone have problem with Gyllenhaal?"

True, I didn't find anything wrong with Jake, I thought he did a really good job, the jokey type attitude the Prince has in the Prince of Persia game series is sort of similar to what Jake did, I don't understand why so many people hate him, saying he can't act..blah blah blah, I found Jake incredibly good-looking as the Prince, I like him loads anyway, but the whole Prince look from the game(Warrior Within [PS2]) made me smile every time Jake was on the screen :D

Call me sad or whatever, but who cares, Jake's one the best looking men around, you know I'm right :D

yeeeahh i said it

(You might have noticed this by now because many people have commented but) no, you're not the only one. I think he did a good job and pulled off the English accent quite well most of the time too. For some reason I've always thought that he should be British rather than American, so now that that kind of happened I thought it suited him well, haha.

So in conclusion, I hope you realise you're reading my signature.

Jake was perfect in this film.

I agree. Jake did a great job. I would have never thought of him doing a part like this, but he pulled it off. He also looks a lot like the character and his accent was pretty flawless too.
