How did they get away with this in today's media climate? It seemed like it was so obvious what they were satirizing.

Transspecies is the newest thing coming...pretty soon we will have to have separate bathrooms for cat people and dog people as well as monkey people and donkey people.

They don't need separate bathrooms as those animals don't relieve themselves in specific rooms. A cat might want at least a little privacy when using a litter box but dogs, monkeys, and donkeys go outdoors. As such, a trans-species person might rather insist on the right to relieve themselves in public places which is then cleaned up by their owner, unless they claim to be an emancipated free-range animal.

shareI know but current PC culture lets you satirize certain groups but bars you from satirizing others. I thought it's ingenious how It's Always Sunny always gets away with it. Maybe the media has given up on our favorite sociopaths and aren't even paying attention.
sharePeople here don't seem to be aware that extreme body modification has become a thing in recent years. There's a real life Cat Lady (beware if you google it, she's pretty horrific looking) as well as at least a couple of women who have turned themselves into a living Barbie.

It's been established that she doctors the photos to exaggerate the effect. And that's just thirst for fame and/or internet attention anyways.
shareThey weren't making fun of transgender people. They introduced the character acting like a cat and all I think around when it was in the news of the woman in real life turning herself into a cat
shareThis phenomena isn't new and that cat lady is old as fuck. I don't think these guys are making fun of trans-species or sneak dissing the transgender movement. I doubt any of them care whatsoever about that stuff. The joke is more on Maureen and how fucking weird she is so her transformation into this makes sense given the extremes that all the characters go to over time. Its not on the movement itself. Although of course to say it's 100% divorced from it would be naive, but 85% no.
