Are the characters intrinsically bad people?

Or are they just products of their environments?

Dennis and Dee had a mom who didn't seem to give a crap about anyone other than herself. She did obviously favor Dennis over Dee, but really she didn't seem to care that much about either of them. Frank bullied them too when they were growing up.

Mac's father was a hardened criminal, and he was raised probably thinking it's normal to steal from people and treat them like crap.

Charlie's mother clearly loved her son but neglected him terribly while she was getting banged by strings of random guys. And Charlie is probably the least sociopathic of all of them.

Do you think these characters are just bad people, or did they just end up the way anyone would end up being raised the way they were?

Well you are pretty much talking about the same thing aren't you? Their parents are crappy therefore they are crappy...weather it is more genetically decided or a result of conditioning is irrelevant...maybe GOD himself could answer your question.

they all seem pretty damn evil in their own way. but yeah maybe some of it is because of terrible upbringing.

Yea they are bad people, but they dont think theyre bad. thats what drives the story~

I think Dennis and Mac are the most fucked up ones of them all. Dennis, being the most lucid of them all, should know better except he's an actual sociopath so naturally other's interests are not a concern of his. I feel that Dee started out a decent person who over time became a terrible person. Even though it's from the later seasons, the episode "The Gang Broke Dee" serves as the most severe example of how she is treated by the only people who supposedly love her including her twin brother and father and you can easily see how this torment could ruin a person.

Charlie, arguably has brain damage and usually doesn't do overtly fucked up things himself. He usually just tags along or is used. Mac is for lack of a better word: retarded. He simply just has a screw or two loose and a fucked moral compass for reasons that can't be explained by the way he was raised unless he had Dennis's parents since he also only cares about himself.
