He's slept with a few women before, and he seemed to enjoy it with at least one of them (Barbara).

Yes mac has gotten gayer and gayer throughout. They kept having to up the ante to keep it funny. I think they dipped in that well a few too many times and they finally had to answer for it. Which is why I think it was a smart move to have him come out. This opens up a whole plethora of comedic opportunities. A lot of people seem upset, but give them some credit. 130 episodes in and still brilliant

He was probably lying to himself all this time. Dennis was always a role model to him and of course he would bang chicks himself and even the ones Dennis' already banged (MAC system).

But I think they never meant to make him gay in the earlier seasons.

I don't think turning him gay was the plan from the beginning either. And maybe he was lying to himself the whole time. But he seemed to genuinely like having sex with Dennis's mom. 
