Photography maybe? He obviously lied about having that job where he sold books to UCLA. His entire day and night centered on following Amy. Yet he was able to purchase all that surveillance equipment, and obviously had a residence in the LA area. Was he independently wealthy? Also, why did he lie about being from Seattle? You never know where he is really from, but its not like Amy or Jen would have cared much anyway.
shareHe also knew enough about web design to do her web site about her painting. It's a little odd that we never do find out what exactly he does for a living though I guess that makes him more anonymous and parlays with the idea that he could be anyone.
shareLike all omnipotent stalker/serial killers in lazy horror thrillers, he has no need for money. Or a job, a family, food, any kind of routine, interests outside of stalking, or anything else that would make him a real human being. He is a mindless stalking robot that exists only so that this improbable, frustrating, cynical plot can move forward.
Maybe he's just got a trust fund that lets him fund his career in stalking. Or he's super hacker and he just uses his l33t skillz to steal millions of dollars from whoever without a trace. That's at least as plausible as anything else in this miserable subgenre.
