Immersive

Very immersive... Very few movies like this and I doubt any will be made at this level anytime soon... Worth experiencing if you haven't seen it...

Felt like being in another world for a couple of hours

Yes this is an excellent film, it’s very good and Mel Gibson is an extremely talented director. This is actually an underrated film IMO, it deserves more credit.

‘Don’t look at me, look at the road. That’s how accidents happen’.

It was interesting. I didn't feel like I got much from watching this movie. Ironically I saw this movie after taking a trip to Mexico and touring the ancient ruins of Uxmal, the oval pyramid, and then driving out to Yucatan to see Chichen Itza and Tulum. Lots of interesting ruins, but I am not convinced they really know that much about how the Aztecs and Mayans lived and their habits.

The Spanish did their best to make those people seem barbaric and evil. They made all kinds of accusations of human sacrifice, but many of them have apparently been proven made up and false to justify the Christian missions which have been looked at and written about anew in recent years showing how complicit they were with the genocide of native peoples.

A good movie to counteract a little of this is "The Mission". Or, if you want to go into the history of it, read about the Catholic Pope's "Doctrine Of Discovery" which was the basis for making legal the taking of all land belong to non-Christian barbarians. There's a lot of history we never find out about in school and the history books.
