(Plot) similarities to "Mad Max: Fury Road"
I watched "Apocalypto" yesterday and was totally amazed by it, I wish Mel Gibson would direct a lot more films...
After watching the film I had to think about the main storyline (symbolism, metaphors, subplot etc aside) of "Apocalypto" and the one of "Mad Max: Fury Road" I have seen a few weeks ago in cinema here in Germany.
And I've had the feeling the story was quite similar, what do you guys think?
(I'm not saying that's bad, it just seems "Mad Max" couldbe inspired by "Apocalypto" a litte bit)
Just going to summarize "Mad Max"'s story a little bit and compare it to "Apocalypto"'s, so be aware of spoilers:
Mad Max: Max is free (well, kinda) and then fighting against the... others...
Apocalypto: Jaguar Paw is free and then fighting against the other
Mad Max: Max is captured and brought to the citadel
Apocalypto: Jaguar Paw is captured and brought to the city
Mad Max: Max is taken on the chase after Furiosa and is able to free himself (and almost died)
Apocalypto: Jaguar Paw is chased himself (and almost died/was sacrificed etc)
Mad Max: Max is running away from the others chasing him, Furiosa and the women
Apocalypto: Jaguar Paw is running away from the others chasing him (and there's a woman too)
Mad Max: Max etc are returning driving to the citadel again, still chased by the others
Apocalypto: Jaguar Paw is returing to his destroyed village, still chased by the others
Mad Max: They manage to defeat all their followers
Apocalypto: He manages to defeat all his followers (but the two on the shore)
Mad Max: A new era begins at the citadel (I think) and then he's going away, if I remember correctly....
Apocalypto: A new era begins in Mexico and then Jaguar Paw and his family are going away
Oh, and there were births in both films under special circumstances
So basically in both films they are captured and brought to one place, then manage to escape, flee and eventually returning to where they started...
The more I think about it, the more similarities between these films I see, like style, action, sound design etc...
What do you guys think about it?
