Best scene?
Each time I watch Jaguar paw shout out and challenge them to come over, I get goosebumps. What an inspiring figure he is.

When he arose from the mud, and you see just his eyes. Loved the symbolism of the entire scene.
shareCome on ... it's easily the "target practice" sequence, culminating in Jaguar Paw finally scoring one for the good guys and cutting the chief's son's throat.
shareDeseased girl prophesying their doom by a panther and reborn from earth and stuff.
Infact up untill this movie never even believed it was possible for a kid to be this convincing.
Theres a whole horde of grade-a "actors" that wouldnt even come close being cute, threatening, mystical and very much believable all at the same time. If there is an oscar for best kids performance this one would beat all of em.
You fear me? So you should. All you who are vile. Would you like to know how you will die? The sacred time is near. Beware the blackness of day. Beware the man who brings the jaguar. Behold him reborn from mud and earth. For the one he takes you to will cancel the sky, and scratch out the earth. Scratch you out. And end your world. He's with us now. Day will be like night. And the man jaguar will lead you to your end.
Just awesome

The scene at the end with the Europeans was striking because it set what had been a minimalistic story into a wider perspective. Suddenly it becomes not just about a refuge fleeing through the woods, but about the evolution of civilization. Empires rise, fall, and are replaced.
Also the sacrifice scene. Very intense, and some wonderful cinematography.
It's subtle but definitely one of my favorites: when Zero Wolf is watching his son Cut Rock in the role of "the finisher" and observes from a distance the fight between Cut Rock, Blunted and Jaguar Paw. His face ever so subtly changes from pride, to confusion, to worry, to rage. Really good acting on Raoul T.'s (I ain't even gonna attempt the spelling of it) part. It's almost indiscernible as his face goes from pride to confusion to worry. I re-watch that part as much as any other because I'm so impressed with it.

The target practice and escape scene. I've never seen anything like that. The first time I watched it, my heartrate was through the f--cking roof. I was breathing heavily and sweating. I felt like I was THERE. And then to see Jaguar Paw go down, break the arrowhead off, kill the boss's son, stand up, scream and rip the arrow out and just BARELY make it into the dead corn was the most raw and intense thing I've ever seen in my life.
shareHaha. Indeed. Your beautiful wording of the scene took me back THERE.

Maybe not the 'best' scenes....but (IMO) good scenes...........
When Blunted and his nag-of-a-mother-in-law are seeing each other for the last time.......the look in their eyes.....silently acknowledging that the happy existence they once knew is gone forever.....
Zero Wolf....leaning over his dead son......he has a glazed/dead look in his eyes.......he reaches for his son's dagger and you know the anger & rage are building inside of him.
Oh, yes. They were wonderful scenes too.
