I agree on Mel Gibson needs to direct more. Great movies he presents....i would love for him to direct "Blood Meridian".

I bet if Mel said disparaging remarks against us Filipinos, only us Filipinos would care that he said those remarks. Yet anything anti-semitic, the whole world turns against you. Many make disparaging remarks against Blacks as well, yet such racists remarks are not given the same outrage as anything about the Jewry. Sometimes, it's not even anti-semitic & the Jewry gets hell bent against you. Weird.
He is a very good director, he has such potential, it would be a waste to not allow his talent to flourish or be shared with the rest of the world. This movie in particular is amazing, I keep watching it, it's a 10/10 in my book. Very few have taken such an in-depth interest in the prehispanic culture of Central/South Americas.

Totally agreed OP.... Gibson is a damn good and talented director. So he said some silly remarks about Jews when he was drunk... lets let bygones be bygones. Don't let that one incident mar his career as a director.
Gibson likes to make movies of "tortured and heroic souls"... such as Braveheart, Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.. perhaps he could do more of these similar style movies of characters in history, or even branch into other kinds of film?
Saw this yesterday for the first time. Great action thriller, a real gem.
