Size of the Mayan city bothers me.

I've seen artists concepts and model reconstructions of Meso-American cities, and it seemed to me that the city the story revolved around was too small.

I wonder if it was meant to be like that, or if it was an artistic decision that was apart from budgetary constraints of the film.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

We didn't really get to see how big the city really was...we just saw some people gathered at the pyramid making sacrifices. It looked pretty big from the limited parts we can see...how big was it supposed to be anyway??

It seemed like a pretty big city to me. They probably walked straight from the jungle to the pyramid in the center, and we saw lots of stuff along the way. Since we only saw one small line through the city, you can assume that there is much more to it than what we saw.

Also, who said that this is even a major city?

It looked like Tikal or El Mirador
