What happened to the Viking movie?

Mel Gibson was supposedly going to direct a historical Viking movie. I know I saw something about the movie in pre-production a few years ago, but there's no mention of anything at all now. The only directorial thing post-Apocalypto is some movie about America's first conscientious objector, which will no doubt be as entertaining as Cruise's Born on the Forth of July.

I want Mel Gibson to do an Apocalypto-style movie about Vikings!!!

Is he still blacklisted in Hollywood after all these years?

Watch this documentary about Desmond Doss, and you'll see what a great film this will be. Def worth the watch. Hacksaw Ridge is the name. What this man did was amazing; those who loathed him, came to love him.

Perhaps Berserker is still in the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure he was ever blacklisted, as such. Even Gibson himself admits that for a time he was his own worst enemy, and drove people away. Few people wanted to be associated with him as a person, so it's not a surprise nobody wanted to make a film with him.

Still, it's a pity, and I'd personally like to see it happen, if Gibson's still interested and can revive the project. He's a good director, and doesn't just do the obvious.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

This is the first time I've heard about it.
