Jefferson and Hemmings

What is the latest evidence on that? As someone who doesn't really care about whether or not it was true, I think the mass of circumstantial and DNA evidence strongly points to him being the father. A lot of the con camp tend to strike me as being highly defensive of Saint Tom. And Adams said, facts are stubborn things.

The DNA proves that someone from the Jefferson family did father Hemings' children, but is unable to prove definitively if it was actually Thomas. It may have been another male Jefferson. But other evidence (such as his farm records) show pretty conclusively that Thomas was the only one present at the time of the children's conception.

I used to live in Charlottesville, and it was fun to go to Monticello and ask about Sally back in the 80s--they would snootily deny that such a thing were possible. Lately they have had to accept the evidence.

Since they've had family reunions that include both the black and white sides of the family, it is pretty well-accepted now.

Interesting that nothing was mentioned about Jefferson's affair with Hemmings or his child with her.
