The diaries of John Adams is a great place to start. Adams wrote down everything that Congress spoke about during the debates of independence. His diaries are almost as good as a tape recorder Recording the opinions of each of the founding fathers.

I like the book Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts. It gives a lot of interesting information about the women who helped form the country behind the scenes like Abigail Adams and Martha Washington. There is no way this young country could have succeeded without the strength and resiliency of those women.

She also includes Peggy Shippen Arnold who was instrumental in her husband's treachery.

I highly recommend Unger's "Lafayette." While Lafayette was not a Founding Father, he knew them all. Lafayette was an incredible man, a key in the history of TWO great nations. http://www.amazon.com/Lafayette-Harlow-Giles-Unger/dp/0471468851

5,000 Year Leap is a good one. Not about any specific founders but it details what the founders wanted when building the nation and gives a lot of direct quotes to back up what they say. Very educational book and appropriate for our current time.
