at the very end the guy lying on the deck is NOT the captain Dan

Dan the captain is rather muscular and most importantly has a big tatoo on his left arm which we see clearly several times.

the guy at the end clearly has no tatoo and less importantly also is much smaller than Dan, the tatoo thing is very obvious.

I guess it's her husband and she is a ghost regretting jumping in to save Dan because she drowned.

Nice theory!

thanks, i find it weird that there are so many topics but no one mentioned the very visible tatoo which is not there at the end as well as the difference in body size.

That's because Dan's the only other potential survivor, so the rest of us just assumed it was him.

It's been a while, but I think I recall reading the filmmakers' explanation confirming it was Dan, but leaving it deliberately ambiguous whether they were ghosts or not. So even they meant it to be Dan.

But you're right - the tattoo should be clearly visible, and it's Eric Dane's real tattoo, so it's not like it could've been left out by the makeup people. So that was NOT Eric Dane.

I agree about his build, too, but that's hard to tell from behind when someone's completely relaxed.

Good catch!

Sorry ... this issue stuck with me so I actually went back and watched it.

You CAN see Eric Dane's real tattoo, the rearmost edge of it, on his shoulder.

So it's likely Eric Dane / Dan on the deck.

I also forgot: the filmmakers originally scripted a written postscript saying that Amy and Dan never spoke again. They ditched the postscript because (A) they wanted to leave the ghost thing ambiguous and (B) duh! Why WOULD Amy ever speak to the guy who killed her husband and all their friends?
