DUMBEST Decision Made By a Movie Character In Cinema History!!!

*Spoiler*

Re: The Ending. WAIT A MINUTE! So, you're telling me our "heroine" jumps back into the water to save a lying douchebag (the one who caused the dilemma) from drowning, only to end up drowning herself and leaving her baby alone on a drifting yacht...for a SECOND time???

Jesus...who wrote this sh!t? Stupid movie.

"I KNOW, RIGHT!? Ahhaha...WOO!" <- This terrible writing is why Green Lantern failed.

did you watch the ending past when she jumped in the water? she didnt die.

If you have been referred to my signature it means someone should slap you for your stupidity!

reply

Well ... the director was quite clear about the ending being deliberately UN-clear. So there's no "right" answer to whether she lived or died.

Saving Eric Dane was stupid, though, whatever the ghosts of her past. She should've started up the boat and run over him in a search for her still-swimming friend.

After all, if SHE and Dane's character were still alive, there was at least a chance Ali Hillis's character was also alive, and worthier of rescue than Dane's.

reply

She died? Why did I see her again at the end and why did I see Dan's body on the boat? I couldn't tell if he was alive but she definitely survived the ordeal.

Okay....

1) The girl who went swimming for shore was probably dead. Even if she wasn't, it would be near impossible to find her in the ocean like that. We see a long passage of time happen and Dan nearly drowns in a much shorter time than that.

2) While Dan was a moron, he wasn't evil. He just made bad judgment calls, ones that I can almost see anyone else making. If she- or anyone- had just left him to die, THEY would be the evil one.

Either way, she survived and we have to presume Dan did too.

I would have left Dan drift off. At that point, my child is more important than anyone, and if I was safe on the boat after having almost died (which would have left my baby abandoned), I would have stayed. She threw the life preserver, so it's not like she was purposely letting him die. After she threw it in, I say her duty to Dan was over -- besides, it looked like he drifted off on purpose as if he wanted to die because of his guilt.

I do agree that her jumping back into the water (despite having two ways of getting back on, the life preserver and the ladder) was the dumbest decision ever made in history. In fact, I said those exact words when she made the jump, simply because I feel it was a selfish decision on her part for leaving her baby a second time while simultaneously risking her life (and thus, her baby's life).

I totally agree! Leaving her baby a second time to risk her life for someone else was incredibly selfish. I'm a mom and I can't imagine doing that to my child. It's always my first instinct to protect her. I'd never purposely put her in danger like that. By the way they portrayed Amy earlier in the film, I think it was really out of character for her.

I'd hardly call it risking her life. She'd quite easily survived, what, a day in the water? Jumping in for a few minutes (with a buoy attached to the yacht nearby) is nothing. Does being a mum connote not giving a sh!t about anyone but yourself and your kid? Though maybe it would have been a smarter move to maybe drive the frickin' boat near to Dan and toss him the buoy?

The baby would almost certainly have survived regardless.

You can only say that in hindsight, since you saw the Mexican guy arrive at the end.

But at the time she made the decision to jump into the water, with the information she had, from her perspective she'd have to assume the baby would die if she didn't make it back to the boat. Healthy adults can only survive a few days without water, much less a baby. Most likely that boat would've been drifting undisturbed far too long for the baby to survive.
