shareI think it's supposed to be that he realises James is about to die so goes off to give Amy time to be with her husband and let him go. That's the way I interpreted it. Although he does properly look for it. But that's ludicrous. When James drops it it sinks, so it's at the bottom of the ocean by the time they go looking for it.
