I think it would have lent this movie an extra air of realism..


If Dan had found the knife. Really, the ocean isn't as vast as we're led to believe. It's maybe like the equivalent of 10-15 average-sized bathtubs, tops.

That part never fails to get me. "I'm gonna go find the knife," says the guy who dropped a knife while drifting in the ocean.

I think it's supposed to be that he realises James is about to die so goes off to give Amy time to be with her husband and let him go. That's the way I interpreted it. Although he does properly look for it. But that's ludicrous. When James drops it it sinks, so it's at the bottom of the ocean by the time they go looking for it.
