Carpenter's influence in H2

In one of the two discs there's an interview with Rick Rosenthal where he said he was more interested in atmosphere and suggestion than gore when working on Halloween 2, but Carpenter wanted him to have lots of blood and gore. I think that Carpenter wanted him to include all that so that Halloween 2 would be lumped together with all the other slasher films while Carpenter's original would be a classic forever. I think he wanted only his film to be a classic, and not the sequel. Does anyone here agree or do you think Carpenter actually thought it made Halloween 2 better to have tons of gore? I come to this conclusion because the first film was all about suspense and suggestion. I don't think Carpenter wanted Halloween 2 to compete with the first one on an artistic level.

By the time Halloween II came out the gore movies were under way. To keep up Carpenter did what he felt he had to do.

Rick Rosnethal had the right idea and maybe he was right, but at that time gore films were really in.
