I don't get how people can compare this to Shaun of the Dead.

SotD was a movie that poked fun at other movies of the same genre, while still keeping it true to the zombie style (which is freakin nailed).This movie is just another attempt at a slasher while trying to add a bit of a different sort of back story to it.

Overall the movie is pretty average, acting is average, gore was average and the story was pretty piss weak... The whole time I was watching thinking so am I going to get to see this chicks tits or what? Atleast that could have earned it some points was a crappy b grade horror movie.

I'd say don't waste your time, unless your just out to kill a couple hours with another failed attempt at a comedy/horror movie.

The only comparison I can think of between the two is that I enjoyed the first half but not the second. That's just a personal opinion though of course.

It's more like Severance or Hatchet in my opinion.

I'd say it was more akin to Hatchet. I liked Severance - it wasn't TOO gory and it was funny as hell! :-)

The only reason people compare it to Shaun is because it is a UK horror comedy. Thats it.

i like SOTD, severence and the cottage (even though a lot was cut out)..

a question for those who compare 'the cottage' to 'SOTD', were there any zombies in 'the cottage'?

The only connection I can think of (other than they're both British) is that Reece Shearsmith is in both. I think in SOTD he's part of Yvonne's gang.

The end scene with Reece reminded me of The League Of Gentlemen more than anything! Maybe TLOG inspired the writer, especially with Reece being in it.

The connection is they are both UK horror and comedy at the same time. It's a rarity although it's becoming a trend lately.
I think Shaun is more commercial and Cottage is low budget.
Cottage made me laugh more than Shaun although I'm a big fan the actors in Shaun.
