British Traffic Cams

...are apparently useful as emergency fax machines but useless for the identification and prosecution of reckless drivers.

It would be nice if the police had access to a similar system. Then they could use it to ticket reckless drivers.

Don't they?

Not in THIS movie.

reply

Yes, they do. Refer to my first comment. I think you are confusing the concept of "identifying" with "finding an apprehending". Some tourist gets a rental card on his credit card and you photo him, bam, you know who it is, the license plate, the car. But actually dispatching an officer to apprehend every person who drives badly? There's not enough cops in the world to do that. Such situations are handled by summons that you get in the mail... By the time that came, he'd be back in America.

Yes. I forgot that this movie also doesn't have the postal service or news coverage. My bad.

can you explain that comment to me? I don't get what you're trying to say.

MAIL the god-damn ticket, court summons, whatever to him and in the meantime print a page one story, complete with the traffic cam photo under the headline DESCENDANT OF LINCOLN'S KILLER TRIES TO CARRY ON FAMILY LEGACY IN HIGH SPEED RAMPAGE

reply

lol that would be a hilarious headline :)

but of course, the cops have no way of knowing this guy is a descendant of lincoln, i don't think traffic summons are investigated with quite that much fervor, i don't think countries keep records on the genealogy of citizens of other countries, let alone their own... :)

and they don't necessarily have his home address in america. maybe they do. but it's not exactly enforceable. if i got a ticket from a country i visited, i'd just throw it away :D

So British traffic cams take their pics of the FRONT of the car?

Over here it's the BACK of the car, to give you time to spot the cam up ahead, slam down your brakes and cause huge pile-ups, then revv up again when you've passed them.

They do ! Here in London it is almost impossible to drive anywhere without getting a CCTV photo fine sent to you in the post . I'm not even talking about speed cameras or red light cameras - CCTV ! There is also massive use of Automatic number plate recognition in London to see if the vehicle is Taxed/Insured/Tested . Big Brother is here my friend !

That which does not Kill me makes me Stranger
