First, is Helen Mirren character supposed to be British or American? Because throughout the movie i can't really figure out..
Second, during that scene of the balancing platform, Riley said he has to leave behind. Does this imply he's the heaviest in the group of three?
I was trying to figure that out too.
One minute she sounds completely British and then the next far more American.
Perhaps Brits who have lived in America for so many years would sound like her. But it's still confusing.
She speaks in her normal British accent, so I think it's safe to assume that the character is British.

The reason why Riley knew he had to be left behind is because Ben had to go in order to help figure out the clues, and they wouldn't leave Abigail behind because they are more chivirous(sp?) then that, they would never leave the girl behind. He was making the obvious best sacrifice!
