What's the status on National Treasure 3?

One rumor is that it will be a direct to DVD release, which mean it wouldn't be of the same quality as the first two, and my guess is probably wouldn't involve Nicholas Cage.
There are other rumors as well including that they are currently working on fleshing out the story. Apparently, there will be nothing involving Area 51 or the Fountain of Youth.
Once possible plot involves a trip to Easter Island (what IS underneath those big statues, anyway?) and possibly on to Atlantis in search of the lost ultimate pure and clean power source (and other valuable treasures of course)

That is the dumbest rumour I have ever heard. It will NOT be a DVD release, no matter what, that is the one thing we do know.
It's being planned for a 2011 release, and a 4th is wanted by Disney.

Nicholas Cage was recently a guest on a Dallas radio station. He said he still hadn't seen a script, they are still working on one. That would put it out to 2012 at the earliest.

The second installment of "National Treasure" depended TOO MUCH on coincidence for me. Too many plot holes. Lazy writing. It turned Cage's character into a comic character. It was like they rushed the film into production, with the hope (intent?) that "smoke and mirrors" would save the day for them. "NT2" was a disappointing movie from that standpoint.

No because that would not be a music score if someone is singing. The music in the film was pretty good and I'm talking about the film score composed by Trevor Rabin. And Celine Dion isn't that great.

I hear Celine is preggers with twins! Nicolas Cage makes bad movies, and he's broke. Which is why there's going to be a "National Treasure 3." THAT'S the ONLY reason there should ever BE, a "National Treasure 3." MONEY!!!

That's an exact description of the first movie, as well. Don't get me wrong, I think this series is decent as far as entertainment goes, but there's not much difference in the two movies in terms of quality.

Nah, I wish they would just stick to American treasures and such, to be a
"National Treasure." It just does not the same big hollywood effect if they filmed elsewhere.
PLEASE don't let it involve aliens!! That would kill any chance of it feeling even close to based on reality and an easy way out in writing. This may be a far fetched series but alien involvement would kill it for me anyway. I do find the Easter Island idea interesting as well as Atlantis as long as it deals with HUMAN history. I don't care what nation it involves, as long as it's one based on Earth and has a tinge of real history behind it.
