Was this movie remade?
I read that they were planning to make an american version of this. I sincerely hope they gave up on that idea.

Nope. If you type The Orphanage into the IMDb search bar the second result with no date or poster is the proposed remake.
It is currently (thank God) in development hell and will stay there forever.

Thank you. I first saw the information about its remake in Wikipedia and I noticed that that information isn't there anymore. That leads me to suspect that they gave up on the remake and I'm glad.
Anyway, even if they gave up currently, that doesn't mean that within a few (or many) years they won't do a remake. You never know.
