Why did her fingernail brake?

We clearly saw the door close on her fingers, yet when she falls back in the bath somehow her nail is mangled and she pulls it off with ease.

Did she not pull her hand away from the door, while the kid tried to force it to close? I'm guessing that's when she injured it.

Maybe because it was about to hit the chicken crossing the road in front of it?
