Hi anymore know whats the purpose of the scarecrow?

I thought it might be to mean that something scary is going to happen/ preview of Tomas with the sack, but scarecrow is supposed to protect.... so I don't know!

Crow scaring? I think it is great that every ominous item doesn't have to be "Used" in every horror movie.
